Running for a Change began as an idea in May 2006 as a way to use running or exercising to help raise money for various organizations. The idea was to get sponsors for runners as they participate in races. This would encourage them to keep exercising, and it would give family and friends a fun way to support these groups. The following is a list and summary of the three organizations you may choose to sponsor through this website:
** The American Heart Association, www.americanheart.org, is a national voluntary health agency to help reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and strokes. Heart disease is the number one killer among adults in the United States, killing more than all other diseases combined.
** The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org, is the leading charitable funder and advocate of Type 1 or juvenile diabetes research worldwide. Their mission is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Each year more than 13,000 children are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the United States.
** The Children's Miracle Network, www.childrensmiraclenetwork.org, is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for 170 children's hospitals across North America. The hospitals treat 17 million children each year for every disease and conditon imaginable.
If you would like to help by sponsoring a runner, start by reviewing the information on the Runners and Race Schedules tab, then simply go to the Sponsor a Runner tab above. After you complete the information, click "submit" and a copy will be sent to the runner notifying them of your support. Then open and print the appropriate sponsor form to mail with your tax deductible donation. DO NOT SEND your donation directly to Running for a Change.
If you are interested in becoming a runner, go to the appropriate tab above. Complete the information, click "submit" and you will be added to the website as soon as possible.
Thanks, J. P. Watson
